Valve expands CS2 scripting tools for map creators
The 22 October update gives map creators more control over loading, hostages and round flow. Here are the key changes.
By MgHzValve expanded Counter-Strike 2's map scripting in an update published on 22 October 2026. The changes focus on tools for developers building maps and custom experiences, rather than an announced change to the tournament map pool.
More control over loading
A new precache function gives scripts access to an object that can report whether content is loading or has finished loading on the server and clients. It also offers a check for loading completion across all clients and a function to release the object.
Tracking hostages in scripts
The update adds functions to check whether a hostage is being picked up, carried or rescued. New events cover pickup, interrupted pickup, dropping and rescue, giving map creators more explicit states to work with.
Dedicated console and game-rule interfaces
Valve also introduces separate Console and GameRules exports. GameRules includes functions for warmup, team scores and terminating a round. Moved and renamed methods remain available at their previous locations, but are marked as deprecated.
The update includes scripting fixes and more informative warnings for invalid arguments. This announcement does not describe weapon-balance changes or a new official map.
