CS2 update

CS2 demo viewer gains better camera controls and download progress

Valve updated demo viewing on 14 October: downloads now show progress, and free and chase cameras work while a recording is paused.

By MgHz

Valve's 14 October 2026 update changed Counter-Strike 2's demo and replay viewer, covering both recording downloads and camera controls.

Visible download progress

Demo and replay downloads now have a progress bar. This changes the information shown during a download; Valve does not state that transfer speeds have increased.

Camera controls while paused

Camera controls now use click-and-drag. Free and chase cameras can also be used while a demo is paused, allowing players to use these views without advancing the recording.

Valve also lists fixes for minor issues when seeking to another position in a demo. The announcement does not detail every individual issue.

Changes for servers too

The same update changes round backup file usage: a game server must start with the -allow_round_backup_files flag to use the feature. AUG reload animations were also adjusted to better match the updated reload duration.

Other changes include Vulkan renderer stability improvements and a new material for Workshop Tools. The announcement does not provide measured performance gains.
